Surviving the Current Financial Meltdown

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

In the current climate of near certain worldwide financial crisis there has been a traumatic worldwide economic meltdown which has put the world economy as we know it at risk. There are many businesses who will not survive but there are some who will not only survive but will benefit in these unfortunate times. For instance our business in web design has increased recently because in an effort to reduce costs companies are turning to the internet to improve sales without incurring huge overheads. So companies like ours suddenly are in greater demand. However for the majority of the population it is a question of surviving and getting through it. If your business is on a sound financial foundation and you have money behind you then this will be beneficial in the coming months. You may even be able to reduce employee salaries for a period of time, rather than have lay-offs or even closing down, but whatever strategy you apply it will need to be with the agreement of the workforce because a company is dependent of the good will of its employees at such a time.

Cash flow

Most businesses go to the wall because of problems with cash flow. If there is not enough revenue coming it to pay for goods and services then it will not be long before a company goes into bankruptcy. Constant monitoring of the financial position is crucial. It is so easy to spend and not realise how much is leaking out and where it is all going. Keeping a tight control on costs is always a vital activity because that is what makes or breaks a company. More profits always come from reducing outgoings whether it’s reducing waste or cheaper purchasing or decreasing the workforce. I once listened to an audio tape on how to become wealthy and the one item to impact me was the advice to plug the leaks. Most people when running short of money try to find a way of making more money, but without a balance of reducing outgoings they never seem to resolve their problem. The simple reason is that when people earn more they spend more. If you imaging a bath with the tap turned on to fill it up. If the plug is securely in place the bath will fill up fairly quickly. But if the bath was full of holes no matter how much water you pour into the bath it will never fill up. The analogy is that the bath is your bank account, the tap is your earnings and the holes are your spending. Since listening to that tape, I have made a point of keeping expenses to a minimum at home and at work and every little sum of money coming in I see as a positive step to achieving wealth. To achieve sustainable wealth it is essential to take control of your spending and plug the leaks.

Avoid buying anything unless you absolutely have to or adjourn some necessary purchase for a few more months if possible. It’s amazing how you can manage without something for a period of time by using up existing or old stocks and making sure that waste is reduced to an absolute minimum. One of the things we teach early on is that being good with finances is often just a case of regular monitoring and being aware of what is going on with your finances.

Look for Bargains when Purchasing.

When you do have to purchase goods to run the business, make sure you look out for bargains or negotiate for a better deal than you may have achieved previously. When times are tough, sales with no profits are better than nothing and there are some good deals to be had. One company I recently heard about sold a house for half the price when a customer came along with a cash offer.

When we were given the challenge of setting up website hosting for under £20 a year for our client promoting their electricity price comparison website we were able to find a host who offers hosting completely free if you buy your domain through them. So just because you have a pre conceived idea that something has to be paid for, or costs a certain amount, it might not necessarily be the case and it is worth investigating all markets and reviewing all costs continuously.

Look for Bargains in purchasing.

By taking a good long hard look at all of the business overheads I am sure it will be easy to identify those areas similar to ours where you have large outgoings. If those costs are essential to the functioning of the business then looking for better deals with other providers or renegotiate with current provider to maybe save thousands of pounds. So in many ways the current economic climate could be seen as a good thing because it forces businesses to review their outgoings and get rid of the dead wood. In any business, the higher the outgoings, the smaller the profits. When there is an economic downturn or some loss of business unless you have unlimited capital set aside, it is vital to reduce spending otherwise the business will not survive. Most really successful businesses understand the value of controlling outgoings and constantly review costs, even when times are good.

Tighten your Belt - Eliminate Fancy Spending

Although looking at reducing large overheads is one way to improve the viability of your company, another is to pay attention to the small amounts going out. It is so easy to think ‘Oh it’s only a few pounds’ but small amounts add up and can so easily get out of control. Remember that old saying ‘take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves’ I think it is so true. So cut out unnecessary spending, no perks on the business such as lunches or dinners to woo customers. They rarely actually need it if your business is offering honest value for money and top class services, and in most cases customers and prospects will appreciate you being prudent if it means you stay in business and continue as their valued suppliers. Directors can lead the way by paying themselves less or taking a pay cut showing that they are willing to tighten their own belts.

Recently it was announced that Bruce Forsythe was taking a cut in salary for his position as the host of Strictly Come Dancing, one of the most popular programmes on TV at the moment. He believed that they were being paid too much and put his money where his mouth was.

Another major area of expense is salaries and the costs that go with them. If you employ a large number of people the overhead expenses are huge. However there is always a natural wastage where people leave or retire so without actively having to make people redundant there may be occasion to reduce the wages bill when times are hard. Efficiency and effectiveness of the people working in the company is critical and communicating with the workforce as to how they can reduce wastage and be more effective can be a rewarding policy.

One example from my previous work in organisations was when running a supervisors workshop. One of the delegates was complaining that when he needed to order supplies he had to sent the request up the line and wait until the senior manager had given the go ahead. As he was responsible for keeping supplies stocked and felt very frustrated at the time it took for him to get the approval he needed. I was shocked to hear that he was being so hampered in doing his job properly. So when I asked the question. ‘What’s to stop you ordering the goods yourself?’ after a long think, he said it had always been done that way. Nobody had questioned the procedure and whether it was still necessary to follow it. The outcome was that the he was given the go ahead to do the ordering himself and the senior manager was freed from one task he could happily do without.

Do Your Customers have Financial Liquidity?

If one of your customers is a very large company and they are source of the majority of your revenue then you are in a high risk position. It is a good idea to ensure that you have more than one high volume customer as well as lots of smaller ones so that you will be covered if one suddenly defaults on payment.

Find out the financial stability of your best customers. When the income of a customer falls then their ability to purchase goods and services is affected. If they are able to pay, then you will be able to pay your suppliers. There is nothing worse than doing a lot of work or selling a lot of stock to customer and then not getting paid. Situations like this can often cost you money, and that is the road to financial ruin, so be sure to be aware of your client’s economic situation as best as possible. We use the free Dunn and Bradstreet financial tracking service to identify any negative changes registered against any of our major clients

One of our clients, a team of, Nottingham town planning consultants were unfortunate enough to have one of their major clients go bust on them with an oustanding balance of about £10,000. This was a huge sum to lose. View their planning website now. They survived because their business was very healthy with good cash flow.

Find out the financial stability of your best customers. When the income of a customer falls then their ability to buy goods and services is reduced. If they are able to pay on time, then you will be able to pay your suppliers. There is nothing worse than doing a lot of work or selling a lot of stock to customer and then not getting paid. Situations like this can often make the difference between success or failure. The cost to you in money and wasted effort and resources could be the road to financial ruin, so make sure you are aware of your client’s economic situation as much as possible. When the financial crisis happened one of our best customers suddenly switched to a two month payment plan which meant that we did not get any money from them for a month. When we protested the chief executive told his manager to find another suppler. There were a number of outstanding invoices worth thousands of pounds and we were powerless to do anything. Our overheads were compromised for that month but we were fortunate enough to have access to a reserve fund to tide us over. And yes we did get paid the whole amount over time.

Avoid Borrowing Money

When the world is in a financial crisis it is better not to borrow money if you can help it. If you have already borrowed significant sums of money then make sure you talk to your bank and get the best deal on repayments you can. If it’s possible to repay a chunk of money to reduce the interest you are paying out then do so. To me interest is money going out for nothing in return and is not good money management.

Having said all that, the interest rate in America is just over 1% and recently rates have been radically reduced in the UK. But that in itself is what caused this whole financial mess in the first place. People borrow money cheaply then re-lend it at a higher rate of interest and take the difference in profit. Once the interest rate rises to a more normal level they will bail out and take their billions off to buy an island somewhere while everyone else pays the price. I know that is an over simplification of the problem, but it serves to demonstrate that the greed of a few has caused the distress of millions of the majority.

In my property rental business, a few years ago I had to let a house at a reduced rent but found a good long term tenant. This meant that the income was only just covering my costs but subsequently, because of the drop in interest rates, the mortgage repayments on the property have been reduced by £150 a month. This means I have been able to realise a small profit and with that money I am reinvesting it in improvements to the house. Long term I see it as a good investment to maintain the standard and value of the property. So for some companies who have had to borrow money to stay afloat there is the benefit of lower interest rates to reduce the burden of repayments.

You Only Have to Make it Through

The world economic situation is currently, I realise, considerably more complicated than we are suggesting above. Although it is true that the simple way of dealing with a crisis is often the best solution. If you cut everything back to the bone and try to recreate the times when we did not have such complicated lives, it can allow you to get on top of a situation. Years ago people used to manage their company without an expert tax consultancy, people managed without espresso coffee machines and other such luxuries such as cleaning services and people who come round every few weeks to disinfect your telephones! they coped through carrying out extra tasks on their own when they needed to or they just managed without. As your company regains its footing, or recovers, it probably won’t make economic sense to sit and trawl through your business accounts doing book keeping yourself or to have to do a lot of extra research and administration, in order to restore those facilities that help make you more income once the business has recovered.

Now I am not suggesting that we should go back to the good old days. What I am saying is that we might think we can’t manage without all our latest gadgets such as mobile phones that take photos, but the reality is that we can do more with a great deal less, as long as we put ourselves into the right frame of mind and think positively about what we can achieve rather than what we haven’t got. Obviously as your business grows, or recovers, it doesn’t become economically viable to sit and trawl through tax return forms or to have to do a lot of extra research and administration yourself, so you can restore those facilities as and when you have recovered your financial equilibrium.

Think what the Victorians did with the limited resources they had at their disposal. The horse was the main mode of transport and they used the manure to heat cold- frames and managed to grow pineapples without any other form of heating. They did not have cars, computers, mobile phones or even phones. The railway was only just coming into being, and they did not even have electricity. But with their energy and ingenuity they conquered the world. The industrial revolution with their steam driven machines changed our economy for ever. In the past there was no such thing as designer and yet businesses survived|thrived.

Stay in a Positive Mode

By this I do not mean be in denial and pretend the world is not going through a financial challenging time. But if you are continually thinking and worrying about the negative aspects of the financial situation, then you are likely to make it come true. Don’t forget you get what you wish for and by concentrating on something then it will work like a wish, so why not concentrate on ways of getting new customers, giving better value to your existing customers and how your company could offer new products or services to your existing customer base?

Conclusion

Although during this recession there is no doubt times are hard for people who have lost their businesses. No work, equals no money coming in, so how do people pay their bills and their mortgages? If consumers have been prudent during times of prosperity and they have a nest egg for a rainy day, then they can probably get by for a few months until they get another job. But if they are already up to their eyes in debt then they will face personal bankruptcy and could lose everything.

In spite of all that, some people are managing quite well if they have jobs or some other type of income. One article I read recently said that the death rate reduced noticeably during recession and put that down to eating more economically at home and not eating so much junk food. So OK we can’t afford to go out for meals as much, and things are more costly, but home prepared food is often better for you and sharing meals with the family is a way of coming together and communicating. So it’s not all bad. Good luck for a prosperous future.

Dont die of a clogged up heart

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Having not really been in contact with the family for about 10 years I found it a bit worrying when I talked to a relative of mine that I found on the internet and he informed me that my old mans brother had a triple bypass operation and his sister had a pace maker fitted.

The fact that both of them had heart attacks instantly placed me on high alert for any potential symptoms that might signify a possible heart condition. I didn’t instantly go out and purchase a Zoll M defibrillator on the off chance my chest went into fibrillation but I did get a bit paranoid.

Having just placed my sole trading company on hold and had been grazing on food, which had put the weight on, 14 stone at 6 foot for me isn’t a healthy weight. Call it psychosomatic but I started to worry about a pain that I was getting in my chest.

Anyway a blood test at the doctors later told me that my blood fats were to high and the Doctor informed me I was on the borders of needing drugs to reduce my cholesterol level down due to my bloodlines history of heart conditions (though she informed me there was no evidence that a parents brothers and sisters effected their progeny).

Snap out of it!!!! I instantly cut out butter, cheese (love cheese!) and didn’t eat chocolate or things that had a high cholesterol content. Increased foods that reduced cholesterol (stuff from the supermarket nothing stating super powers) and started Mountain biking to the then newly started job (ten miles there and back cross country, 14 miles by road).

I purchased a set of scales that originally recorded my fat levels being 25 or 26 which was way to high I have now reduced it 20-21 which is what it should be. I am now 12 and a half stone and back to my original athletic self. I haven’t been back to the doctors and am not renting a Zoll M defibrillator just in case, because I know my cholesterol levels are back under control even giving myself chocolate, cheese and butter in moderation.

When feel that you weigh to much or have a very sedentary life and feel de energised think about what you consume and begin exercising it wont take long (about a year for me) to have a real effect to your existence.

Baby Suffers Injury During Childbirth When Mother Not Followed For Gestational Diabetes

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

A category of claim commonly seen by a birth injury attorney involves an Erb’s palsy injury. This sort of injury can leave a child with a permanently damaged arm.

When evaluating these cases an erbs palsy lawyer considers a number of factors. One of the issues is if the doctor had data suggesting there could be difficulties from a vaginal delivery and took necessary actions to avoid them.

In one documented case, for example, the child’s mother had in the past delivered 2 other children. The two had been born large babies. The mother tested borderline for gestational diabetes in the 4th month of her pregnancy. She had excessive weight gain while in the pregnancy. The unborn child had been noted larger than anticipated at four months of pregnancy and to be in the ninetieth percentile for weight. The mother’s doctors scheduled her for induced vaginal labor in the fortieth week of pregnancy.

Once admitted to the hospital for the planned vaginal delivery a number of worrisome signs were observed. However, the doctor failed to attempt to check the mother one more time for gestational diabetes or to approximate the baby’s weight ahead of inducing her. The physician went ahead with a vaginal delivery.

Hospital documents indicated that shoulder dystocia was present and that following delivery of the child’s head, instead of attempting a routinely employed procedure, the doctor instead employed suprapubic pressure to facilitate delivery. The child was 10 pounds 10 ounces and had a head circumference in the 90th percentile. The baby suffered from Erb’s palsy. As she got older her arm atrophied because of her incapacity to use it. She has developmental delays and she has cerebral palsy. The law firm that handled the case reported that the case settled for $900,000.

The preceeding is not medical or legal advice. You should consult a physician at once in case you think there is a complication with your pregnancy or your baby has a health problem. Seek the advice of a medical negligence lawyer should you believe your infant was hurt due to a mistake by a doctor or other health care professional.

Drills For Keyboard Lessons

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Does anyone really think that drills are fun? It is not likely. You have to do the same drills again and again … and then again and again. It is possible to make them more enjoyable, though. Once you have found a way to make them more enjoyable then the practice on the piano will lead to much better results. Some of the most popular and valuable drills that can be done when beginners take keyboard lessons are described below.

Arpeggios

Arpeggios, with the fancy sounding name, can be very effective when a beginner starts his or her keyboard lessons. There are two main benefits that the beginning piano player will receive when they practice the hand over hand drills. These exercises are meant to assist beginners in mastering the Triad. The Triad is the central point in playing the piano. There is even more to it than this! The beginner piano player will also have the ability to practice using the entire keyboard when they use this exercise. Once the beginner has mastered the Arpeggios they will move on to playing pieces that are more melodic and that they use all five fingers with.

Articulation and Elision

These drills also have a fancy name and they work very well for piano students that are beginning to take keyboard lessons. In order to master the keyboard, several different drills will be used. For example:

* A series of notes (two or more)

* Two or more notes simultaneously

* Staccato

* Staccato and Legato in two different hands

* Forte and piano in two different hands

Scales

The set of musical notes that start at a certain note are called scales. They are also commonly referred to as “boring.” There are a couple of very good reasons that piano students that have begun keyboard lessons should not learn the scales. One reason is that if they feel it is too boring they may just give up before they even get to their second lesson.

Skill Drills

The short but technical drills that put focus on a certain skills are called skill drills. Be sure to do your research about which of the many types of skill drills will be most useful for your needs as a beginning keyboard player. It is good practice to use several different skill drills so that you can work on a wide range of skills on the piano. You may also discover drills that will allow the player to work on the areas that need the most attention in their piano playing. It is true, no matter how hard it is to admit, that we all have short comings that could use some fine tuning.

Why are piano drills so necessary? One of the most important benefits is that you can work them into your regular routine that warms you up. You need the warm up so your fingers are more nimble, just like you have to preheat the oven before you bake a dish. You also get the benefit of working on areas that you may not have much time to focus on during the main part of your session of practice.

While using piano drills in addition to the keyboard lessons for beginners, learning the specifics of playing the piano by using Rocket Piano is also a great idea. If you incorporate the right drills they will become much less boring. Using Rocket Piano can also improve all areas of your piano playing and make them much more exciting.

The 2012 Olympics and Recycled Concrete

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Introduction

Mention the word demolition to almost anyone and the picture that instantly comes to mind is a vision of a building being blown up and collapsing to the ground. Many people have stated that they would love to push the button, to detonate the explosive devices which bring a disused building to the ground. In many cases what comes down, must go up and we are seeing many unsightly buildings being demolished to make way for future development, often as part of a regeneration project.

For companies who over many years have built their business around the demolition of buildings, the demolition sector is now far more reaching than just demolishing old buildings. Once the building is demolished the huge task of site clearance begins and in a world where consideration of the environmental impacts are high on most peoples agenda, the material residues from demolition need to be sorted for recycling purposes. This will include such materials as steel, wood, plastic, brickwork and concrete.

Most of the materials can be bulked up and transported to the appropriate recycling plants for reprocessing. Materials such as bricks and concrete can be crushed and turned into a recycled concrete aggregate product ready for reuse in the construction of new roads or buildings. Increasingly though, through advances in technological development, residues such as concrete to be recycled have to meet a very high specification for reuse in construction projects.

Crushed into different sizes of recycled aggregate will determine the future usage potential of the product. Large sizes could be used as decorative rockery products in landscaping whilst much finer, almost shingle like product can be used as a bedding for pipe laying or as a layer in road construction. With an increasing number of opportunities identified for the reuse of recycled aggregate, the entire demolition and construction industry is making a significant contribution to sustainable development. Following demolition of a site, many demolition contractors have expanded their service offering to include site clearance services.

Reasons Behind the Increased Focus on Recycling from Construction and Demolition Projects

In 1996, UK Government imposed a tax on all wastes going to landfill. The tax is paid on top of normal gate fees for waste being disposed in landfill and since its introduction the cost has increased on an annual basis. When first introduced, the standard rate of tax for general wastes going to landfill was £7 per tonne and £2 per tonne for inert materials. The tax is designed to encourage commercial and industrial businesses and local authorities collecting from households, to divert waste away from landfill for recycling. In April 2009, the standard rate of landfill tax increased to £40 per tonne and is scheduled to increase each year by £8 per tonne until 2013. The lower rate of tax charged upon any inert materials going to landfill such as concrete and soils, has remained relatively steady in recent years and is currently at £2.50 per tonne.

However, the weight factor alone of a bulk load of these inert materials going directly to landfill will ensure that the entire cost of disposal becomes very expensive and so even in the demolition and construction sector, diverting waste from landfill is a priority.

A number of demolition contractors offer low-cost crushed stone simply to move it off their premises.

Next time you see a demolition project in progress or pass any construction site during a build programme, it is clear to see the volume of waste being generated. If waste is not in skips, piles of rubble will be stacked high. The placing of construction waste in skips has been a major problem for waste contractors for many years. Having worked in the waste industry, I have seen skip lorries tipped backwards with the cab of the vehicle up in the air, due to the sheer overloading of waste skips with construction site waste.

Each year, the UK generates around 330 million tonnes of waste and it is estimated that around 90 million tonnes of this is from construction and demolition wastes. This figure has remained fairly constant since 2001. Around two thirds of this waste is usually recycled or reused in land reclamation or agricultural improvement projects. Since the late 1990s there has been a steady rise in the volumes of construction waste being recycled and this has been helped with advances in technology which have led to improved crushing technology to create more widespread use of different grades of recycled aggregates.

In recent years, the construction industry as a whole has worked hard to encourage construction project managers to place a greater focus upon recycling on site. This has led to an increase in the recycling of all inert materials from site.

Prior to the introduction of the landfill tax all construction site waste including bricks and concrete would be bulked up and transferred to a landfill site for disposal. No consideration was given to recycling. There are now stringent regulations across the sector, coupled with an increase in environmental awareness, as well as the commercial benefits in ensuring that this type of waste is now recycled. There is also greater recognition of the vast array of opportunities to re-use recycled aggregates within the construction process on alternative construction projects or in areas such as landscaping or home and garden DIY. Following the demolition process, together the waste concrete, bricks, masonry etc will be transformed into a recycled concrete aggregate.

To recycle concrete aggregate to a high standard and resalable product, it must be entirely free of other contaminants such as wood, paper, card, steel and other general waste materials. The final product must also conform to the requirements of British Standard BS 8500. The process of recycling the concrete can usually be achieved in one of two ways. Some demolition contractors will install a crushing machine on the demolition site, whereas some contractors will prefer to transport the waste to be recycled, back to their own premises for sorting for recycling or re-use. On projects where demolition and new construction is to take place at the same location, the contractor is very likely to locate a crushing machine on site to avoid incurring additional transportation costs in taking the material back to a sorting and crushing facility. There is now very sophisticated crushing equipment available to reduce concrete to a very fine specification.

Check the credentials of prospective building demolition specialists before confirming their appointment to undertake your project.

The Increasing Demand for High Quality Recycled Aggregate

Before commencing the crushing process, it must be determined what the end product is to be used for to ensure that the recycled aggregate is to meet the required standards. There is huge requirement for recycled aggregate to be used back in the construction process. As a product, recycled aggregate can be used for almost any type of concrete structural work, road surfacing or pipe laying project. Having passed through the crusher the pieces of aggregate will be separated by size. Bigger pieces may be retained as a decorative product for use in landscaping rockery projects, or they may be passed back through the crusher to be crushed to a smaller size. The smaller pieces of recycled aggregate may be suitable for use as a gravel on new construction projects, road laying or driveways at home. The crushing machines are now capable of achieving good quality small aggregate grades such as the production of a 20-5mm gravel which can be bagged and used in the garden at home or purchased in bulk as part of projects involving new concrete production. The advances in technology mean that the recycling of aggregates for other uses such as a simple gravel product or for use in concrete products has greatly reduced the need to dig quarries to mine for gravel. Recycled aggregates have become a versatile reusable product and has eliminated the need for large volumes of a good material to be disposed of in landfill and therefore offer significant environmental benefits.

The demand for high quality crushed aggregate is increasing. There are key standards in place which are focused upon improving the recycled concrete aggregate industry. Through research and development, more widespread uses are being identified for the use of recycled aggregate. No longer is concrete, just concrete. What we are talking about now are many different grades of recycled aggregate, ranging from the large chunks of aggregate to very specific 6f2 recycled concrete which can be employed as a sub-base material for construction jobs, or 20-5mm recycled aggregate, which is a gravel and can be used in road construction or at home on driveways. As well as being used as a mix for road construction, recycled aggregate is being used as bedding for pipe laying or foundation material prior to construction projects commencing. In achieving such good quality grades the 20-5mm recycled aggregate can be used as an aggregate base in road construction and the quality meets the standards required to allow its reuse in concrete production. The 20-5mm recycled aggregate is a very versatile product.

One of the important criteria when using recycled aggregate is selecting the right specification for the task. For example, when using 20-5mm coarse graded aggregate as a road base, the thickness of the layer required must be determined to withstand traffic flows. Traffic flow on a motorway will be significantly different to that of a country road. One reason aggregate produced to a 20-5mm specification is used as a road base is that it aids good drainage. Once the recycled aggregate is laid, appropriate layers of asphalt or concrete can be laid over it to create the road surface.

In recent years, in the UK we seem to have more rain than sunshine and therefore the selected aggregate must be able to withstand variances in temperature and conditions e.g. dampness for long periods, torrential downpours, long dry spells. With its good drainage qualities, the recycled 20-5mm product is the perfect choice for many sand and gravel applications including, pipe bedding, driveways and footpaths, landscaping, plus for use in ready mixed and precast concrete products. With its drainage qualities, 20-5mm recycled aggregate is a versatile product.

Recycled Aggregates and the 2012 Olympics

In its bid for the 2012 Olympic Games, London placed sustainability as the focal point of its bid. The bid team identified a major opportunity to increase awareness of climate change and the issues which surround it, and bring it to the World’s attention. With the eyes of the World watching, the Olympic Games present a unique opportunity to communicate key messages about sustainability. Throughout the entire development of the Olympic project, there is a commitment to make 2012 the most sustainable Olympic Games ever held. This focus began when planning the development and build programmes for the facilities and venues, the transport links and network, the hosting of the Games themselves and will end by leaving a long lasting legacy of a sustainable environment.

Since London was awarded the Games, all suppliers involved in the development requirements, from the construction of the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Village and transport links to the venues have been encouraged upon ensuring the use wherever possible of sustainable materials. Across the entire Olympic build programme developers have worked hard to identify suitable sustainable materials for use in the build programme. At the end of the overall project there will be some clearly visible examples of the use of sustainable products.

qually there will be many more much less visible and furthermore, many which will be not visible at all. One of those products which visitors to the games and its many venues will not even think about will be how recycled aggregates have been used as part of the overall construction project. But developers and specifiers of materials for use in the build programme will be comfortable in the knowledge that they have selected sustainable products including, the most appropriate recycled aggregates as part of the project. With its identified qualities, let’s hope that somewhere in the world wide TV coverage the 20-5mm recycled aggregate gets a mention somewhere, somehow. Imagine being asked to supply recycled aggregate which meets a very specific 20-5mm clean material specification, to help build the 2012 Olympic Village.

Conclusion

How times have changed in recent years for the demolition and construction industry. Companies have had to adapt to meet challenging environmental requirements. As with almost any industry, new regulations and legislation dictate the standards to which your business must aspire, if it is to be successful.

Businesses involved in the production of recycled concrete aggregate are no different. These are classed as processed materials and must conform to a particular product specification which can be used in the construction process. The standard BS8500-2 offers a full specification for the uses of recycled concrete aggregates in concrete, although with such a vast range of recycled aggregates an all encompassing specification for the use of these aggregates is yet to be determined. The most important thing is that the industry does not stand still and wait for the specifications to be finalised. The versatility of recycled aggregates means that demolition contractors operating crushing plants are seeking to identify markets through which to sell their recycled products. The advances in crusher technology and machinery has seen a big increase in the options now available in supplying large chunks of recycled aggregate for landscape gardening use in rockeries, down to a gravel type 20-5mm recycled aggregate with its good drainage qualities for use in road construction and driveways. The demolition and construction industry now places sustainability at the forefront of its future development projects.

Why doesn’t every person visit the chiropractic doctor?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

If you are like the vast majority of Americans and experience chronic joint, muscle, as well as other types of pain that your normal doctors can offer no answer for then your body might well be out of alignment.

If you have had MRIs, CT Scans, X-Rays, and a number of other tests done while doctors say nothing is wrong with you, yet, you experience tenderness, pins and needles, tingling, stiffness, the body may well be crying to get a realignment.

How you are affected ultimately is the body begins to unalign itself overtime to make amends for repetitive motions or shortage of motion. Occasionally these conditions can’t be adjusted even by surgery.

A Chiropractor can recognize ?ssues and conditions at the beginning so that they don’t manifest into severe spinal or skeletal disorders that could start to limit your function, mobility, and or result in a lot of pain and stress. They deal directly with vertebral subluxation which is a generic term they will use to recognize numerous symptoms generated by misalignment or perhaps a dysfunctional spinal segment.

Among the frequent reasons individuals give for not using a chiropractor is it hurts. The adjustments you get at the chiropractor are oftentimes nothing more than very much alike cracking a knuckle. There’s virtually no pain involved when these adjustments are performed by a real chiropractor.

An additional common reason is my doctor has never referred me to a Chiropractor. Because Chiropractic care is a kind of natural medicine, it is unlikely most medicinal doctors will refer one to a chiropractor doctor because most are convinced that you can solve anything with drugs and surgery. The health industry cares about being profitable and when they start to lose business to natural remedies that do not require expensive invasive surgeries or a multitude of drugs then the pharmaceutical companies along with medicinal organizations could be hurt by this move.

Some say, their insurance would not cover it or its very costly. What is wrong with that statement? If you wish to talk about expensive wait until you have to undergo surgery to fix an issue you might have avoided and also have to lose out on work and then some. Most family chiropractic wellness doctors offer discounts to cash customers and a visit is always very reasonably priced in comparison to a medical visit or surgery.

The important question is, how do you look for a chiropractor?

The best way to look for a chiropractor is to interview them over the phone. Inform them about your conditions and inquire in regards to what he would do to help remedy it so you can acquire a feel for whether or not he really cares about you as his patient. If he refuses to take a call or schedule a time to speak to you then move on to the next chiropractor in your list. Most of them will recommend you come in for an evaluation and more often than not will discount your first visit. Remember to express your primary concerns to the chiropractor to make certain you might be receiving ideal treatment. How to Mold your Baby into a Model

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

A number of parents think that their babies are truly unique, special and cute. Let’s face it, most babies are. If a parent is interested in getting their baby into modeling, there are a number of easy and simple steps that they can go through in order to mold their precious child into a baby model. There are a number of different ways to accomplish, but the easiest ways start with getting as much exposure on the baby as possible. This can include getting an agent, but can be as simple as visiting different talent agencies or taking the baby to as many open auditions and modeling calls as possible. Even a small audition can lead to bigger successes in the future, so it is important to snatch up as many jobs as possible. Exposure like this will increase the odds of people, including individuals in high places, of seeing the baby and generating interest in the baby’s talents as a model for different clients and establishments that are looking for baby print models.

There are some organizations that will require an annual fee for the work that they do with the baby, and there are others that will get a commission based on the jobs and the individual work options that the baby takes on as a model. It is important for parents to understand which one they are dealing with in order to be sure that they can afford the up front fees if the particular organization wants the annual fee instead of the commission. Both options have advantages and disadvantages, and this will be primarily a personal preference choice on the part of the parents when it comes to the modeling career and resources for the baby model in question.

Regardless, there are no guarantees that either can make, and because of this it may be cost effective, at least for the first period of time, to concentrate primarily on open casting and modeling calls for babies in the area. This is because they do not cost the parents any money, and will help the parents to get an idea of what the experiences would be like, whether or not they can handle the commitment, and whether or not it is something that the baby seems to be enjoying and has fun doing.

Baby modeling can be slightly stressful. Because of this, it is important that the baby not only have the looks and cuteness that the job demands, but also the stamina and disposition. No matter how cute they are, if they cannot handle the stress or otherwise are incapable of working with the individuals that would need to help the modeling shoot go off smoothly, they will not be able to get consistent work because of their temperament. This is not a negative character aspect on the part of the baby; it just means that modeling may not be their calling, at least not at this particular juncture.

If successful, a baby model will typically be able to get paid at least $150/hour when it comes to doing print ads for retail stores and similar types of commercial print model work. If a parent continues to pursue a modeling career for their baby it is important to remember that babies change very rapidly. As a result, it is not necessary to spend too much money on the baby’s portfolio since it will need to be redone on a regular basis. This does not mean that it should be unprofessional, but the truth is that the baby will likely need to have their portfolio updated every couple of months in order to keep it current.

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

I love to write about a variety of interesting topics. I do not have a favorite topic in mind, but I really enjoy writing about almost anything right now. At this time I am starting an online business. I have been known to write about credit cards, insurance, Spanish, English, Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, German and other languages. I speak several different languages and currently I’m going to school to acquire a bachelors degree.

When I’m done with school. I will continue to do SEO work and write articles. I enjoy, writing articles, because I’m able to learn more about the topics that I’m not very familiar with. Of course, I have to learn about the topics first and I do much of my research on the internet. I am then able to write about what I have learned on that topic. For example, if I am learning or if I am going to write an article about a topic, I first go online and I research that topic. Sometimes it only takes me a few minutes when I am somewhat familiar with the topic already. It depends to a great exent, on how familiar I am with the topic. Sometimes it might take me an hour or more to learn about the topic. Either way, I am continuing my education.

I look at all kinds of sites. I like to look at sites like yahoo answers, Google News, Yahoo news, CNN, Fox news, press releases and other reference materials. Anyway, after I have researched the topic well and that I can write something from off the top of my head. To give you an example this time I will write about 12V Light Bulb. I write this is down on my computer and I begin typing. I’d like to type out then run through it once again to make sure it flows nicely and check for grammatical errors. In the article I will be sure to include useful information to readers, regarding cabins . After that I’m done.

I then set the article aside and maybe wait a few hours, sometimes the day and I’ll get back to it later with fresh eyes and a good night’s sleep, and I’ll see the article, and again review it for any errors or any changes needed. I like to see if it might sound better if it were put in other words, sometimes more precise and condensed. Then I’m ready to publish what I wrote, so I find the place where I want to publish it, and I submit the article. The article is then reviewed. It is usually accepted and I can go on in the next topic of choice. After the readers have the information, 12V Light Bulb, then they can make a smart choice.”
