Home Gardening

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Over the last few years home gardening has become an increasingly popular past-time and hobby. In fact, studies show that home gardening is at an all time high in Ireland right now. In the USA 8 out of 10 households take part in some type of home gardening activity. Obviously from the number of people that are doing it, home gardening is one of the most popular recreational activities in country.

Most people that try their hand at home gardening plant flowers; at least they start out planting flowers anyway. Roses will probably be the first thought into any gardeners mind, but roses will take extra time and work, and should probably be left to those who have gardened before. When planting flowers many choices are available, such as bulbs, perennials, and annuals.

Growing your own fresh plants. Perhaps the best thing about edibles is the reward of eating them. The list of fruit and vegetables that home gardeners can grow at home is endless. Some of the most popular edible plants in the vegetable arena are, potatoes, peas, corn, carrots, squash, and cucumber. Many gardeners opt for fruits, such as, watermelons, tomatoes, peaches, plums, apples, pears, and apricots. Small fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries usually require less work and less space, making them much more feasible for home gardening. The growing of herbs, most often used as spices in cooking, are growing in popularity every day ; some of the most grown include basil, thyme, oregano, parsley, and cilantro. One of the most important things to watch for when planting edibles is insects and disease, after all, you do not want to miss out on the feast you will get to enjoy from healthy plants.

There isn’t much difference between home gardening and gardening anywhere else. Plants still need to be planted in a good location. The plants still need water and they still need the same nutrients. Home gardening shouldn’t make anyone to get nervous. If you do decide to try homing gardening and finding out that you don’t have green hands, don’t get discouraged. Get some information, visit a good garden center and read up on gardening, and try it again the next planting season.

Many people don’t know it, but landscaping is a form of home gardening. Landscaping covers many different areas and forms of gardening. You can even classify mowing your lawn as landscaping! Keeping in the line of grasses, landscaping nearly always involves decorative grasses, and the great thing about them is they don’t take much work for upkeep. Types of grass include monkey grass, pampas, buffalo grass, flame grass, and ornamental millet. Landscaping is not just limited to plant life, but also includes anything done to a garden for decoration, such as adding rocks or stones, putting a small pond, statutes, or a waterfall.

Watching Movies Online

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Companies like Netflix, iTunes and Amazon.com are now leading the way in providing movies online. These services charge a fee for individuals to download either a movie, music or a TV episode. A portion of that money goes to the company that owns the film or show. But a portion of the money goes to the distributing company.

These services have been a glorious achievement for those people who want to see a movie the day it comes out for rental or for retail sale, but don’t want to go to the local Walmart to buy the DVD. They have made it simple to just buy the movie online, save it on your local computer and watch it whenever you desire. This makes it easy to watch the movie online on a computer, on a ipod or import it to a device like a xbox 360 and watch it on a TV.

But let’s say that you don’t want to buy the movie. Say you want to keep things legal and clean but you just want to watch it once, you want to watch free films online. Well it isn’t quite free, but it is remarkably inexpensive.

I like to watch tv on my computer but I also enjoy renting and watching movies online.

Perhaps you think the movie in question is not worthy of a full purchase price. Well, Netflix, iTunes and Amazon still have you covered. You can rent the movie and then you will have a month to watch the movie once within a 24 hour period once you start watching the movie. This is more than enough time to watch the movie a number of times.

Or you can subscribe for a very small monthly fee and watch all the movies your heart desires.

With the way technology is going these days it is just easier than ever to watch movies on line without all the hassle. So do not just settle for expensive cable charges or inconsistent satellite service. Explore the world of online video for more flexible and fun movie viewing.

It may take some patience and perseverance initially, but eventually you will find the service that works for you for watching movies online. Perhaps you won’t mind the small monthly fee at Netflix. Or perhaps you don’t mind the small individual charges through a major, reputable service like Amazon. Or perhaps you just want to keep it free and stick with the growing selection available at the NBC and FOX operated Hulu service.

Nikon D90 Review And Buying Guide

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

The D90 is Nikon’s follow up to the successful D80. Whilst the Nikon D90 looks similar to the D80 the camera contains a range of new features, including a new CMOS sensor, a large 3-inch VGA screen and the inclusion of the world’s first DSLR movie mode. The new features make the Nikon D90 a highly competitive kit in the entry level SLR market.

The Nikon D90 contains one of the best viewfinders you’ll find on any APS-C Camera, easily putting it above any camera in this class. The 12.3mp resolution is over 2million pixels bigger than D80 and will give exceptional image quality which Nikon hopes will raise the expectations of the DSLR market.

The Nikon D90 also contains a new feature set containing some very good improvements. Continuous shooting has been speeded up to allow 4.5 images to be caught per second, which when coupled with the split-second shutter response, will allow you to capture any action shots and impulsive images. The Nikon D90 also contains a faster and more intelligent 11 point auto focus which is aided by Nikons exclusive Scene Recognition System, which will give clear accurate shots in all conditions.

Furthermore the Nikon D90 camera uses the automatic Chromatic Aberration correction, just one of the fantastic options taken from D300. This will instantly improve the results of every JPEG, regardless of the lens used, with no effort from you.

Nikon have also made a very big move including the first movie mode on a DSLR computer. The new video capability is a very good function, allowing you to capture video in HD cinematic quality. You can also configure your own movie menus and settings which makes the new function very easy to use.

Despite the inclusion of the world’s first DSLR movie mode the Nikon D90 is very much a photographer’s camera. The D90 builds on the old D80 which was perfectly suited to the “enthusiastic” photographer market and with the new features and options taken from the advanced D300 the Nikon D90 is a very good piece of kit. The quality of images when compared with the, twice as expensive, Nikon D300 is very good, in fact it is quite difficult to pick the images apart and when you take into account that the D300 is considered one of the best semi-professional cameras on the market, this becomes very high praise indeed, in fact it is hard to think of a better enthusiast level camera than the Nikon D90.

Web Design, increase your usability

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

It is easy to make a dorky web page. It’s also easy to make a very nice, clean, professional-looking web page even if you don’t have much design experience. Often the difference, even for beginning designers, is simply a matter of eliminating certain features that are guaranteed to make a page look amateurish. I’ve been going through the list of things that people - designers and non-designers - from around the country have cited as the things that make the difference between a well-designed and a poorly designed web page.

Here’s a list of ten additional design elements that will increase the usability of virtually all sites:

  1. Place your name and logo on every page and make the logo a link to the home page (except on the home page itself, where the logo should not be a link: never have a link that points right back to the current page).
  2. Provide search if the site has more than 100 pages.
  3. Write straightforward and simple headlines and page titles that clearly explain what the page is about and that will make sense when read out-of-context in a search engine results listing.
  4. Structure the page to facilitate scanning and help users ignore large chunks of the page in a single glance: for example, use grouping and subheadings to break a long list into several smaller units.
  5. Instead of cramming everything about a product or topic into a single, infinite page, use hypertext to structure the content space into a starting page that provides an overview and several secondary pages that each focus on a specific topic. The goal is to allow users to avoid wasting time on those subtopics that don’t concern them.
  6. Use product photos, but avoid cluttered and bloated product family pages with lots of photos. Instead have a small photo on each of the individual product pages and link the photo to one or more bigger ones that show as much detail as users need. This varies depending on type of product. Some products may even need zoomable or rotatable photos, but reserve all such advanced features for the secondary pages. The primary product page must be fast and should be limited to a thumbnail shot.
  7. Use relevance-enhanced image reduction when preparing small photos and images: instead of simply resizing the original image to a tiny and unreadable thumbnail, zoom in on the most relevant detail and use a combination of cropping and resizing.
  8. Use link titles to provide users with a preview of where each link will take them, before they have clicked on it.
  9. Ensure that all important pages are accessible for users with disabilities, especially blind users.
  10. Do the same as everybody else: if most big websites do something in a certain way, then follow along since users will expect things to work the same on your site. Remember Jakob’s Law of the Web User Experience: users spend most of their time on other sites, so that’s where they form their expectations for how the Web works.

How To Eat For Weight Loss

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

It seems as if each new day brings a new scientific study pointing towards the benefits of losing extra weight. When you couple with this the social pressure to lose weight it is not hard to understand why there is so much interest in maintaining a healthy weight.

Health experts recommend eating a healthy, balanced diet as the prime way to lose extra weight. But what exactly is a healthy diet? One potential ideal diet for losing weight should be made up of between 45% to 65% carbohydrates, 10% to 35% protein, and 20% to 35% fat.

When carbohydrates are broken down by the body they take on the form of glucose. Glucose sugar is the primary source of energy for the body. Between 45% - 65% of your calories should be derived from carbohydrates.

Nearly all foods have some amount of carbohydrates, thus the choices available can be staggering. If you want to know how to loose wieght effectively, you should consider eating more nutrient rich carbohydrate containing foods. Obvious examples are: fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Colas, fruit drinks, sweets and biscuits do not contain any significant amount of nutrients - these are best avoided. These foods are often described as containing empty calories.

Proteins play an equally important role in all the body’s functions. Proteins are the single largest contributor to helping our immune system and hormonal systems function . They are also the essential building blocks for most of the bodies tissues, like the skin, muscles and the internal organs. In the same way as carbohydrates, proteins are found in nearly all foods.

Do be aware, however, that not all protein sources are created equal. When you’re trying to loose wieght, strive to obtain the majority of your protein from foods such as fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, nuts and lean red meat. The recommended amount of protein intake daily is roughly .35 g of protein per pound of body weight.

It’s often surprising that your body requires 20% to 35% of its daily calories from fat. Just remember that there are different types of fat. Also strictly limit the types of food that contain more harming fat varieties. Foods such as processed meats, butter, lard, cream, whole milk dairy products, ice cream, and many processed grain foods contain what is known as saturated fat.

Saturated fat is very harmful to your body because it can build up in your arteries. That can contribute to a number of diseases. It is recommended that no more than 10% of your calories come from saturated fats. Trans-fats are even more harmful. The current recommendation for intake of trans-fats is zero. To achieve a good balance of fat in your diet, include foods such as peanuts, walnuts, almonds, avocado, olive oil, salmon and other fatty fish, and sunflower oils.

Remember that you should always consult your doctor before changing your diet or embarking on any eating plan.

Use GIMP to create a calendar

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

When have you last been in need for a quick present for your Aunt at the end of the year? And you know that she was always fond of your vacation pictures?

Then why don’t you create a photo calender with the free GIMP calender plugin from http://www.naturfotokalender.de. It is a free and easy to use plugin for the well known gimp graphics program. Moritz Mekelburger is the original author and created it for Kalender erstellen, that is how we germans call “make your own calender”.

This program proofed to be a really powerful tool, and so it was enhanced by naturfotokalender.de in order to be able to create the whole year at once. You will find instructions on a page called Kalender selber machen.

The calender plugin lets you choose a directory with pictures for every month, then creates a gimp pic with all the months as layers. The next step is to indicate where you want your calender to be rendered and then you start the plugin again. You have to state the year for which the calender is created and off you go!

After the plugin is done you have 12 pictures each embedded with a calender for the corresponding month.

If you need a little incitation for you own calender, you can have a look around on the site, the site itself features a lot more, there is a fine collection of calenders with nature photography (for example the well known Geo Kalender Namibia), so the site is worth a visit no matter if you want to create your own calender or not.

Removing Acne Scars

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Acne Scars develop if acne becomes infected and the skin repairs itself just enough to remain healthy however leaves pigmented and / or indented marks on the affected area, can be] both difficult and [costly to remove.

many] over the counter ‘cures’ for acne scars ranging from creams to skin needling. The most [regularly which can (but not always) work but take time for any improvements to start to show as a huge percentage of creams are not absorbed by the skin. Therefore creams are often wasted and so are not economical.

An alternative tool that can be purchased for acne scar removal is the collagen roller. This is a tool for microneedling; you roll the collagen roller over the effected area of skin opening the pores of your epidermis causing it to believe that it is damaged inducing the production of collagen and elastin which eventually heals the damaged skin.

Using the derma roller causes the pores on the skin are enlarged for as long as which is the best time to put on creams as they are much better absorbed when the pores are open as opposed to when the pores are closed. This reduces the waste in creams and increases the effectiveness of the derma roller.

There are more extreme methods to reduce acne scars however these are all expensive and have to be carried out by professionals and then they’re not even guaranteed to work! These include; Micro dermabrasion, laser treatments, chemical peals and also skin needling can be done by a professional more vigorously using a longer needle size and numbing cream.

Membership Website Strategies- Here’s How The Experts Profit

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

One of the best ways to establish an online income that can grow and prosper is to sell information to people who are hungry to buy. People that surf the Internet are looking for answers to their problems, and the marketer who has the right membership site content can sell that information and keep their customers coming back for more.

Why is this technique so popular with successful online marketers? The simple answer is recurring income. You establish yourself as an expert in a given area, and then as you get traffic to your site or blog, you begin offering ‘premium’ content. This type of content can be in the form of text, videos, software, or anything else you can imagine.

Some membership scripts use PHP file protection - they integrate their security with the web page code. These types of scripts are great for blogs and other sites that use PHP on the server. (PHP is a programming language used to create rich web pages). The problem with these types of scripts is that non-PHP files like videos and software are harder to protect from prying eyes.

Blogs are the best platform for this type of marketing strategy - through the use of software modules called plug-ins, blogs can be programmed to offer many features. Using a membership website script plug-in with a WordPress blog is a great way to create an attractive website easily, while at the same time handling all of the technical details of running the membership site.
