If Children Ruled The World, Divorce Would Be Illegal

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

If children were in charge of the world one of the first pieces of legislation to be signed into law would be a ban on divorce. At least that’s what kids would do according to a recent U.K. poll conducted by Luton First in a partnership with the University of Luton. The annual study, conducted via on-line questionnaires, is an ongoing effort to identify what things are important to kids.

The most recent study polled 1600 pre-teen kids and their responses are illuminating. Because, according to these kids, the second worst thing in the world was marital break-ups or separations. Undoubtedly the results would be similar if conducted here in the U.S.

According to divorce rate stats, both divorce and separation can be devastating for a child. And the younger the child, the more a divorce or separation will probably affect them.

The most important thing that a parent can do is to recognize that divorce can cause separation anxiety in kids and to set about finding ways that can help alleviate the anxiety as much as possible. There are two main steps you can take to lower their anxiety levels:

1) Be honest with them. Make sure they know that he or she is not the reason for the separation.

2) Let them communicate with you. Don’t shunt them off to another room when the subject of separation comes up. Let them know what’s happening so that they are not in the dark.

Since divorce rate stats shows no slowdown in the number of divorces taking place, it’s important that we learn how best to deal with the children from the break-ups. Children are very resilient and most of them eventually will come to terms with their parent’s separating. But, if you make it easy on them, they will adjust much more quickly to the circumstances and hopefully with minimal psychological effects.

What Are The Benefits of Reverse Osmosis Water?

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Harmful substances in your drinking water may be a serious health and safety concern for you and your family.  If you suspect your water supply is contaminated, there are things you can do to make sure it doesn’t flow from your own faucet.  There are several water filtration systems for the home that can remove most of these impurities in the water you use for drinking and cooking.  Reverse osmosis systems are one of these popular methods for cleaning up the water that comes out of your kitchen faucet.

The central step in the reverse osmosis process lies in what happens inside the membrane, which is the most important part of the RO set up.  Here water is forced through this thin porous film which only allows anything the size of a water molecule to pass through.  Anything else greater than .001 microns are prevented from penetrating this barrier.  Potentially harmful impurities such as bacteria, industrial wastes and pesticides can not go through and are drained away.  What comes out the other end of this membrane is mostly pure water.

The membrane isn’t the only critical component of the reverse osmosis system.  In addition, there is usually a pre-filter and a post filter that come before and after the membrane in the RO set up respectively.  The pre-filter blocks sediment such as sand, silt and dirt in the water from entering through.  There may be another pre-filter that uses carbon to remove chlorine which may have a negative effect on some types of membranes.  Then after the membrane there is usually a carbon post filter that eliminates any remaining odor or tastes in the purified water.

When you have looked at the alternatives to a reverse osmosis system for filtering your home drinking and cooking water and decided that having a RO installed is your best solution, then you should shop around for the system which uses high quality filters and membranes.  These are the two most critical components of the system and the level of quality in these parts is what makes one system better than another.  Less quality in these key components means performance will suffer, impurities will pass through and unnecessary downtime will have to be experienced.  Therefore, you must not let a bargain influence your buying decision, but rather purchase a RO system manufactured by a company with a good reputation and service.

Sleep Requirements For A Newborn

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

As a new mother, you probably will wonder whether your baby is sleeping enough, or sleeping too much. There are guidelines of what to expect, but of course these can vary from baby to baby. Even if you’ve had children before, each baby will be different.

Newborn babies usually sleep about 16-17 hours in a 24-hour period. Most babies will not sleep through the night until they’re at least 3 months old. There are several reasons why. First of all, their stomachs are very small and they’ll get hungry faster, especially if you’re breastfeeding your baby. Breast milk is much more easily digested than formula, and your baby will need to feed more often, especially in the beginning.

Babies also have shorter sleep cycles than adults do and have shorter dream cycles. In general, though, a newborn baby should sleep about 8 or nine hours during the day and 8 hours or so at night. These won’t be in 8-hour cycles, of course. In the beginning, those sleep times will be very short. In fact you’ll often wonder what it will take to get your baby to sleep.

As the baby gets older, up to about 2 years of age, she’ll still be sleeping 13-14 hours, but the amount of daytime sleep will diminish month-by-month. By age 2, your baby should be sleeping through the night with a 2-hour nap during the day. Again, this will vary by child. Your baby might need a slightly longer nap or two short naps. At this age though, try to discourage naps too late in the afternoon, as this can make it harder to get them to sleep a few hours later at bed time.

Once a baby begins to regularly sleep through the night, parents are often dismayed when he/she begins to awaken in the night again. Parents will then often become frustrated when their baby won’t go back to sleep. This typically happens at about 6 months of age and is often a normal part of development called separation anxiety, when a baby does not understand that separations are temporary.

Car & Van Wraps To Promote Your Business

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Vehicle wrapping can be defined in its simplest terms as the process of completely or partly covering of a vehicle with full colour images. Wrapping an entire vehicle in self-adhesive film may seem an unusual concept, but it gives us a unique opportunity for the production of eye-catching promotional graphics that can heighten your brand awareness.

Car wraps or van wraps are a very effective way of branding your business vehicle. New and existing customers will see your vehicles on the road every day, so with a vinyl wrap you can make the most of that advertising space. Vehicle wrapping is also cost effective compared to press advertising and will often cost less than a full page feature in a local journal.

Vehicle wraps are one of the most distinctive ways to promote your business. Wrapping allows businesses to extend their corporate branding and promotional advertising to a bigger market by use of full colour images and design. The designs can be as subtle or as extravagant as you like.

With hundreds of people seeing your company vehicle on a daily basis, it’s crucial to make an instant and lasting impression. Long or short term promotional campaigns can be catered for by using vinyl which can be removed with minimal effort, leaving a perfect paint finish behind. The wrap protects the vehicle’s paintwork against stone chips, minor scratches and fading.

Vehicle wrapping is an art form and needs to be professionally applied. When looking to get your vehicle wrapped you should search for a company with certified installers. This will ensure that the latest techniques and vinyls are used and that your car or van looks striking for a long time in the future.
